What is recorded, what is derived, and what is an estimate

ISO/FDIS 22316 is at stage 50.00: the final text is received or the FDIS is registered for formal approval. That is the last stage before the approval ballot and publication. It is not a published standard. This page separates the recorded facts from the planning estimate, because the difference decides what you can put in a contract.

STAGES

The stage record, with blanks left blank

ISO stage codes

The machine-readable feed we read carries the current stage and its date only. The ISO page shows the current stage, the 2017 edition at stage 90.92 and the replacement relationship. Earlier milestones are not transcribed here. A blank is not a prediction and it is not a date. The planning date is a separate, labelled estimate.

THE REPLACEMENT

The second edition replaces the 2017 edition

The clause register

The life cycle record shows ISO 22316:2017 as previously published and ISO/FDIS 22316 as in development at stage 50.00. That is the replacement relationship a contract, a policy or a tender needs to name. It also tells you what to do now: keep the 2017 edition as the applicable standard until the second edition is published, and prepare the transition so the evidence does not have to be rebuilt.

This site therefore does two things at once. It tracks the revision record, including the stage and the estimate. And it states the clause guidance from the 2017 edition that remains in force, with the clause cited. Where the FDIS differs in a way that is not public, the site cannot and does not claim to show it.

What this means for a contract. A contract written today should cite ISO 22316:2017 if it needs a published edition. A clause that cites the second edition cites a draft. The draft may change before publication, and a draft cannot be certified against.
WHAT IT MEANS

Three things to take away

The detail
01

Do not wait for the label

The 2017 attributes and evaluation work are published now. The purpose, context, resource and discipline evidence takes months, and it is the same work under either edition.

02

Do not cite a draft

An FDIS is not the applicable standard. If a customer asks for the second edition today, say that it is at 50.00 and offer the 2017 edition and your evidence.

03

Watch the dates, not the rumour

The ballot close and the publication date are not recorded. The watch emails when the record changes, with the diff. The planning date is an estimate.

THE RULES THIS IS BUILT FROM

Read from the real rules, not invented

Every clause answer on this site points to the official clause behind it, so you can check any line yourself. The register holds 41 records, 174 evidence lines and 123 common failure lines. The revision dates come from the ISO record, one national member body record and one reseller record. The clause substance comes from ISO 22316:2017, the published edition in force.

ONE STAGE RECORD

No invented date

Stage 50.00 is recorded on 6 July 2026. The planning date is an estimate and is labelled wherever it appears.

Read the record

The FDIS text is not public and is not reproduced. The clause record covers the 2017 edition. No clause-level change in the FDIS is claimed. Where the public record is silent, the page says so.
